Eyes fluttering, sticky skin

The summer heat catches up

To us in the mid-afternoon

I start by finding your mail—

A note to me from a state away

(I miss you as well)

I use it as my bookmark now,

I take it to the lake

And let it guard the pages

As I swim to rid myself of

The sand and the sweat

We gather in the kitchen later

At home

Joined together, working

After, we sit at the table

With tea and dinner

Records spinning in the background

I glance around at the people

My friends at the table

And for the first time in a long time

I feel home
